Aspirations

All right, all right so let me get this out of the way before I continue with the themes I've already set forth in the first installment of this blog.

I have no intention of boring my readers with extensive musings over the royal wedding and Princess Catherine's exquisite wedding gown. What would be the point there isn't anything that I could say that hasn't already been hashed out in extensive detail in the media so therefore I will leave it alone. I will simply say that I am very excited that there is a new fashion icon in the house of Windsor and I have yet another inspirational fashionista from whom I know that I can learn an extraordinary amount about fashion. Good show, Catherine Duchess of Cambridge you are a divine beauty!

Fascinators

Due to a recent conversation I was struck with a desire to expound upon my interest in fashion. Though this word is among other things pejorative to many I prefer to think of fashion as an art form no less valid than sculpture, painting, drawing, music or the culinary arts.

Fashion is the expression of the beauty of the human form expressed by enhancing and accentuating a persons best features with the correct fit and flattering colors and patterns. The way that I see it we all have to wear clothes and so why not try to look your best? I don't expect that everyone is going to understand my point of view or necessarily agree with my argument in favor of fashion. But, I DO hope that at least a couple of my readers will be able to appreciate my take on fashion.

I must admit that I've never been a person to perpetuate the tired and trite arguments against fashion or more so the fashion industry. Before I get to far in to this blog I first offer to you that fashion and the fashion industry are not inextricably linked.

Fashion is to me: The styling and/or restyling of fabrics and patterns to create new looks. It is the evolution of different styles over the decades and centuries is what really turns me on when it comes to fashion.

If for a minute you can put aside your biases and be open minded enough to read what I have to say about fashion perhaps I can change your mind and convince you to appreciate fashion in its original intent.

I can trace my love of fashion to my childhood. I grew up with my mother watching old movies on American Movie Classics and later Turner Classic Movies and was instantly captivated by the clothes, the hats and of course the shoes worn by the original titans of the silver screen. Lauren Becall, Maureen O'Hara, Maureen O'Sullivan (who's more famous for a role where she actually wore very little... Tarzan and Jane) And how could anyone forget Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn and one of my personal favorites Grace Kelly. All of these style icons are now dead but they live on in film and it is through that medium that they remain forever young and forever fabulous!
